Immortal Mic Union: O.R.I.O.N.
DTR and IMU's debut album! Back in stock!!
FROM MVREMIX.COM:
Over the years, many "crews" have come out of what we call the underground. These generally fall into one of two categories: a bunch of rejects coming out after one guy has mediocre success (see Ruff Ryders) or a collective of similarly minded MCs who come out at the same time (see Wu-Tang). The Immortal Micunion fall into the second category, as this group of hip-hoppers from Ohio's Deep Thinka Records. 'O.R.I.O.N.' is not really an album as such, but 5 IMU cuts, 5 singles from Deep Thinka, a remix of IMU's title track, and an intro to boot.
While the emcees all come tight, the production is the strong point of this release. Heavy drums with interesting samples laid over define the music on 'O.R.I.O.N.' and they all manage to be of a high standard. Personal favorites on here include the title track (by the whole IMU) and 'Trilogy' (by Deck of Cards). The fact that the production is done by several different guys (Tone X, Furious, Lamek and Michael The Archangel) yet still remains consistent makes it more impressive.

Ripsquad: Illa Godz CD
ONLY A FEW COPIES LEFT! Debut album from Cleveland superemcees Ripsquad (aka Rime Royal)
from CLEVELAND SCENE:
While Ripsquad rappers Speed (Robert Hill) and Furious (Jayson Floyd) have been working together for six years, they have released only one single prior to this, their full-length debut. But that single, 1998's "Ice Water/Ultimate Dialect," established the duo as one of Cleveland's best-kept hip-hop secrets. Not concerned with rapping about jewelry and cars, Ripsquad is, in its own words, a "throwback to when rap albums not only had replay value but made you want to listen from start to finish." Clocking in at just over 65 minutes, the 15 tracks on Illa Godz really do function as a whole.
Ripsquad has the indie attitude and poetic aspirations you'll find in albums on labels such as Rawkus and Ark 75. The scratchy string arrangements that run through songs such as "Squad's Theme III (Beats to the Rhyme)," "Sycamore," and "Petty Cash" recall the RZA's work with the Wu-Tang Clan; the title track has something that sounds like a Portishead sample percolating in the background; and the Prince Paul-inspired "4.2 40" has a perky beat that displays the group's sense of humor. There are a few missteps here -- the Too Short knockoff "Fleetwood Caddies" doesn't flow smoothly enough, and the phone conversation that bookends "Jewel of the Nile" is an inside joke that doesn't translate. But the occasional lulls don't detract from the album's overall appeal. Even a fake news report about an invasion of Cleveland by wack MC-eating monsters in "Freedom Writers" doesn't suggest the group has exceeded its limits -- Ripsquad backs up its boasting with a heady array of quirky samples, fierce rhymes, and dense beats.

Immortal Mic Union: Freedom Writers 12"
4 Track 12" ONLY A FEW COPIES LEFT!
Side A: Freedom Writers b/w American Pie
Side B: Metaphor Metropolis b/w Creative-Innovative
From UGHH.COM:
Wow, this is a pleasant surprise. Immortal Micunion drop some nice rhymes on "writing for freedom" and are helped by a mellow beat from T1X that switches midway through into a great piano-laced gem. The Common sample on the hook is cut to perfection, and both MC's impress. Listen.

Siege: Heart of the Game b/w Cyanide 12"
FROM UGHH.com:
reviewed by The Difference
Siege is talking about his heart and love for this “game” of hip-hop. Over the sped-up vocals and high strung sample, Siege discusses his reason for spittin’ and how important this hip-hop is to him. This is another single from Deepthinka Records, who plan on making noise in the New Year, and this single solidifies that.

Ripsquad: Ice Water 12" Single
BACK IN STOCK!! DTR's FIRST EVER RELEASE FROM BACK IN 1997!!
From UGHH.com
reviewed by mARTin
Since this is a new crew I better start this review off with kicking the basic knowledge Quest gave me about them. Ripsquad a.k.a. Tha Midnight Express (everyone has at least one a.k.a these days) is two emcee’s who go by the name of Speed and Furious. Both are from Cleveland, Ohio (if you don’t know…now you know). The beat is built up around some HEAVY drums and different vocal samples which sounds like something Dr. Octagon would have laced for himself. You can tell that they are influenced by Company Flow also. Could you have better influences? Probably not - I like it.
